SMX Overtime: What really matters for SEO SUCCESS?

SEO expert Lily Ray recently discussed the things that small websites can do to grow their site and how to truly be successful and have people land on your website, even when you’re starting out.

Trustworthiness is at the very top of the list. It is important to have a trustworthy author in order to have your website pop to the top of the search results page. Ideally, you will have a reputable writer who has a professional background and is deemed to know a lot about the topic they are writing on. If you do not have access to a well-known author, then it is important to build a personal profile of the author online in order to have him be considered a trustworthy source of information. You can achieve this by linking the author’s work to their LinkedIn account or Twitter accounts. It is not impossible to start from scratch, however, having well-known writers write your content will certainly boost your content.

The next step which Lily Ray discussed was focusing on “depth over breadth” of your content. She believes that writing deep into a niche area is better than writing broadly over a number of areas. You can create better quality content if you focus on one unique area and explore it entirely. Digging deeper and creating unique content will put your content into the top 10 most relevant to the topic which will draw more traffic to your website.

Another thing that you can focus on as a company is business transparency. People like it when you are transparent about where you make your money, the posts on the website that are ads, and include a small disclaimer somewhere on the site so that people know what you’re all about. This will improve the trust that your customers have in you and is likely to make them return.

Be sure the cancel pages that are no longer relevant. For example, if you have discontinued a product, it would be a good idea to “error 404” the page. This will improve the user’s experience of your website – no one wants to come across information they cannot use.

Google has not been very clear on the exact way the algorithms determine trustworthiness in websites. However, it has been confirmed that Google quality checkers do look at sites such as Yelp, BBB, Amazon, and Google Shopping in their assessment of reputation information. There has been a fall from grace for some of the well-optimized sites which have done everything right in terms of site architecture, page speed, and strong on-page optimizations because of external trustworthiness.

These are just a few things that you can implement to ensure that your content is deemed relevant and can be successful in SEO.
